Handmade Sketchbooks / Nature Drawing Walks
One or two-day workshop. First day will be used to make an A5 sketchbook, either a concertina book or a conventional sketchbook using traditional stitching and binding methods. The participants will then use the rest of the first day, and the whole of the second day creating a working sketchbook of studies made in the field and walking in the countryside around Hambledon.
Block Printing Workshop
One or two-day workshop, learning how to make block prints using poly printing and lino cutting techniques. Working from studies made in first part of the workshop, participants will be taught how to create a three - four colour print using traditional block printing techniques.
Figure Sculpture Workshop
One or two-day workshop. Using armatures and sculpture methods, to produce a one or two-figure composition. Participants will be taught how to use dowels, wire, newspaper and Mod Roc (plaster bandages) to make their figure designs.
Ceramic Portraits
Two-day workshop. Using traditional hand building sculpture techniques, participants will produce a portrait head, with the emphasis of the course being how to model facial features. The participants will be taught how to use armatures to support their sculpture, and how to measure and model the head from portrait photographs and sketches.
Sketchbook to Canvas – How to Create a Painting (weekly course of 8-10 weeks)
Course to teach the working methods of an artist. The participants will create a painting from initial sketchbook working studies from life, through a series of preparation drawings and colour studies, to making a finished painting. As part of the course, the students will create their own hand made sketchbooks, and will be taught how to make and prepare their own stretchers and canvases for the final paintings.
